A Love/Hate Relationship

Double-Sided Paper...Who doesn't love it, it's like buying two papers for the price of one...or is it?  Most of the paper I buy is double-sided, so when I cut it and and stick it down, only one side is showing...the other side is covered in tape, never to be seen again.  Well, I for one have had enough, I am taking a stand, and am going to start using BOTH SIDES of my double-sided paper.
"Sweet{heart}'s"
SIDE ONE
This is my niece and oldest nephew...looking so sweet together.  This page was made with Lisa's "Something Old, Something New" Challenge at WeScrap!  The heart lockets are my "Something Old", these have been given to me over the years. {they range from 10-20 years old}  My "Something New" is the Heart, this has been cut on my NEW Big Shot, using my NEW Tim Holtz Die! Now, if you flip this page over you will find
SIDE TWO:
Side One and Two share the same piece of {back} cardstock.  Quite often I will attach an envelope, to hold any photos that didn't get scrapped, to the backside of my layouts.  This way, all of the photos {of the same function} stay together, in one place.  On this layout, I decided to utilize this 'wasted space' by scrapping the side that would normally be 'hidden away'.  This also cuts down on {a little} bulk when stuffing finished layouts into page protectors.

"The Apple Doesn't Fall Far From the Tree!"
Jasmine Labombard
{scraplifted from Corinne at WeScrap}
This layout was created for 'Victoria's Scraplift Challenge' , where you were to 'scraplift' one of the WeScrap Design Team's layouts!  I picked 'Twinkle Toes' by CorinneStevens, an absolutely adorable layout! As soon as I saw it I knew this picture of my Sister and her family would look perfect! Thanks again, Corinne, for your amazing inspiration!

Do YOU Ever...?

Do you ever finish a layout and HATE IT IMMEDIATELY? Well, that is what happened to me.  I have been working on a layout for this picture {below} for quite some time {just how much, I am embarrassed to say}.
Finally, I thought that I had a design that I liked, so I stuck it all together...and then ripped it all apart. Ugh! That is so frustrating. {I didn't scan the layout I didn't like...I should have, but I didn't}  So, after a couple more hours work I came up with something that I do like...here it is.
'3 Corn Nuts'
This picture was taken on our annual trip to the cottage.  My Sister and I decided that we would take 'the scenic route' {turning a two hour drive into 5 hours...with 3 kids...one being potty trained}, so needless to say, Season {my Sis} and I where a little nuts by the end of it.  We kept seeing Corncob mailboxes and decided that making the kids look like they were taking a bite of it would make a funny picture. {not realizing that the youngest would be a bit short, but...} The story behind my 'disgruntled' nephew {in the background} is that we pulled over on the side of a nice, country road and hopped out of the van, unfortunately, he didn't realize how close the ditch was and jumped into it, while jumping out...He slid down the side of the ditch. I had no idea he had even left the car because the grass was so high, so suddenly this little boy is grabbing at my ankle from the ditch, at first I was very startled...then, I couldn't stop laughing, which then made him start crying.  I had just about composed myself when the poor guy choked out 'I lost my shoes'...my laughter started again. {I am laughing now while thinking about it...oh boy!}

Wishing you Great {laughter-filled} Days!
Jazz.

Turn Your Eyes

'Glory'
{detail shot-Glory}
Scrabble letters, clock gears...and a few other odds and ends!
Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus is the hymn for the second week of the Hymn and Scripture Challenge at Triple the Scraps {Patter Cross}.
{side shot}
The scripture that I chose to go along with this hymn is Colossians 3:1-2, which says, "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, NOT on things on earth."
{detail shot-Envelope}
I have tucked the quote, "And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His Glory & Grace" {from the song} away in a small envelope {template here}. The envelope is held shut with a piece of velcro and can be removed from the page for easy access.
{detail shot-song quote}
I have added "this and that and that and this" {so my Grandmother would say} to give the page some personality.  I LOVE to 'treasure hunt' {as some of you know}, nothing thrills me more than finding that perfect non-scrapbooking related item that will work perfectly on a layout/project! The Rosary Crucifix I found on Etsy {and has been in my 'trinket box' for quite some time}, the Gear is from a piece of 'clock inner' that I recently purchased at a local Antique Store {$10 and, once taken apart, I ended up with approximately 20 gears and A LOT of other {useful} odds and ends!} and the Metal {tag} Holder is from The Paper Pickle, my wonderful LSS!
{detail shots-trinkets}
I have really enjoyed taking part in this challenge, I highly recommend it {it is going all year long}!  There is no deadline, no {scheduled} weekly prizes {although Patter will offer prizes at different times throughout the year...I WON last week! - Thank you Patter!}, it is just a very personal challenge! {and it is fun doing a NO PICTURE page!} Hope you'll check it out!

Great Days,
Jasmine

Written in Black&White

'Lean On Me'
 Scrapbook Challenges is hosting A BUNCH of challenges this week and one of them is to create a layout using only Black&White {you can use a little bit of Grey and/or Silver}. Normally, I don't use black and white photos...it's a rarity, however, I just happened to have this one lying around, waiting to be scrapped. It was a bit more challenging than I thought it would be, just using the two shades, I kept thinking, 'it could use a little colour here...' but, all in all, it came out okay.
Great Days,
Jasmine

Hopping On With Scrapbook Challenges

So, I thought I would join in the fun over at Scrapbook Challenges.  They have been having their first blog hop, introducing their current {and very talented, I might add} Design Team!  They have provided a 'hop on' sketch, in fact, they have included two; a single, as well as, a double page layout!
{single page}
{double page}

I chose to do a layout based on the single page sketch...and here it is:
'Picture Perfect Moment'
{scan without 'bulky' clock tag}
I LOVE creating different layers and textures in my layouts {I am constantly running out of 'pop-dots'}.  On this layout I used some cogs, gears and hardware from the inside of a clock {I bought the part at an 'Antique Store' in Elora,Ont.} The only problem with these thicker layers is trying to get a decent photo! {small sacrifice, at least I think so!}
{detail shot}
I also love to include some sort of journaling in my layouts...this way I remember what the heck I was thinking at the time.  My personal preference is hidden journaling...mostly so my crappy hand-writing doesn't muck up the layout!
{tag front & back}

I hope you'll pop in at Scrapbook Challenges and check out everything that is going on!  I also have a *GIVEAWAY* going on! {with some ADDITIONAL PRIZES HERE!} Just follow the links and enter for your chance to WIN!

Thanks for stopping by!
Great Days,
Jazz

March of the Penguins

'Oh My, Pengu!ns!'
This is my niece and her little gathering. {These little cuties are homemade cupcakes!} ...As far as the layout goes, not too much went into this, mostly scraps, a {little} bit of ink, some Thickers alphas and time.
{Tag Pics...}
{the other side...}
These little guys are so cute, looking like they're trying to waddle away...Sadly, they didn't make it, but on the up side they tasted delicious!

Great Days!

Seeing that others have been posting a 'Best of' list, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and pick my  favourite layouts of 2011! It's going to be a doozy of a post, so grab a coffee, tea or, if you were me, an iced cappuccino {made with chocolate milk; not cream} and pick your favourite!
Number 11: Today there was a Lion at the Beach!
Number 10: Life's A Beach
Number 9: Lost In Thought
Number 8: Lion Around
Number 7: Pretty Little Girl
Number 6: Grandchild(ren)
Number 5: April Showers
 Number 4: Smile
Number 3: PawPrints on my Heart
Number 2: All You Need Is Love
...and my FAVOURITE layout of 2011 is a double-pager {drum roll here}
Number 1: Celebrate with Tea for 3!
Whew, all done! {again, I apologize for the lengthy post}...2011 was a GREAT year for me in the scrapbooking world! I was introduced to 'on-line scrapbooking' {thanks Ma!}, I started my blog, and I have made many new scrappy friends!!! Thanks for a fantastic year!

Amazing Grace

'Unending Love; Amazing Grace'
{HSCRC12}
This year I have decided to try my hand at Patter Cross' Hymn&Scripture Challenge. Run like a Bible Study, Patter posts a new Hymn Challenge every other Sunday {starting January 1st, 2012}.  This week the Hymn is Amazing Grace, I chose a part from Verse 6:
You were to include a scripture verse as well, I decided on Isaiah 43:1
'Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art Mine.'
{the scripture pulls out from behind the song verse}
The size of the page is 5x7, I think I will look for some kind of large ATC holder to hold the entire collection...shucks!, I guess I'll have to do a little shopping! The {beautiful} papers are scraps from my stash {which I am really going to concentrate on using up this year}, the chipboard letters are American Crafts, Thickers {jewelry box-chestnut}, the Angel Wing is a Sizzix die {cut with my Big Shot}, and the #6 is Tim Holtz Grunge Board Numbers.
  {detail photos}
I hope you'll take some time to stop by Patter's Blog and read up on the Challenge!

Great Days,
Jazz

RagTags

I LOVE old stuff...I am constantly looking for items I can use as parts.  For example, I ended up with a fantastic, antique typewriter some years ago, and although very nice {and in working condition, I might add} not very useful for anything besides a 'prop', the odd journaling and collecting dust...so it has recently been stripped for parts.
'Enjoy Life'
This tag has first been stamped with the Stampin' Up French Script {distress ink;walnut stain}, the edges have been sanded and inked using my blending tool.  The 'Enjoy Life' stamp {very faint} is a Unity itty bitty.  I have used a spring from the disassembled typewriter and a {new&sanded}clock hand.
'Life is SO Good'
This mini tag has also been stamped with my Stampin' Up French Script {distress ink; walnut stain}.  The 'Life is SO Good' stamp is another Unity itty bitty {I just love these}, also stamped in Walnut Stain.  I have added three pieces of my poor typewriter, including a bolt through the tag hole.
'Wingin' It'
This last tag {my favourite} has had the same treatment as the prior two, but has then been folder embossed using my NEW BIG SHOT!! {Thanks Mom and Dan!}  I then cut out the beautiful Angel wing, folder embossed it {Tim Holtz} and then added more ink...and added another piece of typewriter.

I so love finding odds and ends to add to projects...items that would not normally be used in paper crafts, or any crafts of that matter.

One more thing...
My Ma, Nancy Parker has been posting her weekly feature 'Mondays Are For Mom's' since I have started my blog last Spring. Deciding she loved posting so much {and with a little prodding from me} she has now started her own blog, Colouring within the Lines! I am very excited for her and hope that you will pop in and check out her projects!

Best Wishes,
Jasmine
